Xiao Zhengde

Liang prince and one-time adopted son of Emperor Wu who helped Hou Jing cross the Yangtze, was made puppet emperor and then killed by him.

Also known as Zi Gonghe · Prince of Linhe

Xiao Zhengde, courtesy name Gonghe, was the son of Xiao Hong, Prince of Linchuan, and had been adopted by Emperor Wu before the emperor had sons of his own. Embittered at being passed over, he fled to Northern Wei in 525, returned the next year, and was made Prince of Linhe in 532. When Hou Jing rebelled, Zhengde secretly allied with him and used boats under his command to ferry Hou Jing's army across the Yangtze. Hou Jing proclaimed him emperor in 548, but after the palace city fell in 549 demoted him and, when he grumbled, had him strangled under a forged edict. He was the insider who opened Jiankang to the rebellion.
