Part of Ejina's history: Torghut Migration. Torghut Mongol Khan who led 170,000 of his people on their epic 1771 eastward return journey from the Volga River to China.
Han1
- Juyan Frontier Fortifications and Garrison Farms102 BCE, Western Han
In 102 BCE, Lu Bode built barriers at Juyan and organized garrison farming, creating a Han frontier defense node on the northern Hexi rim.
Qing2
- Torghut Return and Settlement in EjinaQing Kangxi 37 to Qianlong 36 (1698–1771 CE)
In the Qing period, Torghut groups returned in stages and were settled in Ejina and other regions, leaving a continuing pastoral cultural tradition.
- Torghut Migration
In 1771 Ubashi led a Kalmyk-Torghut migration from the Volga toward the Qing frontier; the deadly movement was later incorporated into competing national narratives.
