Armillary spheres, water clocks, counting tools and medical instruments: science and measurement in objects

This canon gathers objects of ancient science and technology: armillary spheres for watching the sky, water clocks and sundials for keeping time, measures, counting rods and the abacus, acupuncture figures and medical tools, and survey maps. They were the instruments with which the ancients observed, calculated and tested.
Counting rods establishing algebra, seismographs remote-detecting the earth: how the classical Orient deduced the laws of nature using pure physics and physical computational hardware.
On an observatory terrace among misty hills, an armillary sphere on dragon pillars stands at the centre, with a tilted sundial on a stone base, a tiered water clock pouring from bowl to bowl, a bronze acupuncture figure marked with points, and an abacus and compass on a table. Astronomical and calculating instruments evoke the ancient study of the sky, time, number and healing.
