Brush, Inkstone and Classics
Brush, inkstone, paper and ink, classics and fine editions: a thousand years of learning in objects

This canon collects treasures of reading, teaching and scholarship: the scholar's four treasures and desk objects, Song and Yuan fine editions and palace printings, primers and examination relics, and archives that kept the institutions on record. Through them learning passed from one generation to the next.
Breaking aristocratic monopolies, selecting talent through merit and letters: a classical civil service selection network that sustained societal mobility for a millennium.
In a waterside study, a desk holds a brush pot full of brushes, an inkstone, an ink stick, spread paper and thread-bound books, with shelves of books and scrolls behind, a standing lamp nearby and a jar of rolled paintings. The scholar's tools and the classics evoke learning handed down from one generation to the next.
