This canon collects treasures of music, dance and performance: sets of bronze bells and stone chimes, zithers, pipa and other old instruments, figurines of musicians and dancers, and theatre costume. The phrase bronze sound and jade echo comes from Mencius as an image of perfect ritual music, the very sound these objects once made.
Tuning string and wind instruments, infusing melodies into marketplace culture: channeling the unique acoustic aesthetics of the Orient through ancient musical laws.
On a stone terrace by the water, musicians strike a two-tier set of bronze bells and a rack of stone chimes or play a zither, while two dancers swirl their long sleeves, with old trees and distant hills behind. Bells, chimes, zither and dance evoke the full harmony of rite and music.
