Regional story

A place shaped through time

Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County sits at the very centre of Hainan, its high mountains and hills on the north side of Wuzhi Mountain covering almost all of its large territory. Limu Mountain in the north is revered in Li legend as the peak where their first ancestor was born, and its slopes feed the Wanquan, Nandu and Changhua rivers. Rainforest on Diaoluo and Limu mountains stretches along both flanks of the county, with waterfalls and deep pools in its valleys. The county town of Yinggen is ringed by mountains, and Li and Miao villages along the valleys keep festivals such as the Third of the Third Month. A humid upland climate suits tea and rubber, and the local green oranges are well known.
