Huanglongxi Ancient Town

At the meeting of the Jinjiang and Luxi rivers, Zhenjiang Temple guards the downstream waters among ancient banyans, part of a busy cluster of old temples.

An old rhyme links the clear river to a hidden true dragon, and the town keeps Ming-Qing flagstone streets, tiled timber houses and a western Sichuan river market.

In the Qing dynasty Huayang, Renshou and Shuangliu counties jointly ran a yamen here to keep the peace, a rare cross-county arrangement in China.

Huanglongxi is famed as a home of fire dragon folk art, and at the Lantern Festival its dragon dances and showers of molten iron sparks make a dazzling show.

In 1763, Huayang, Renshou, and Pengshan jointly built the Gufuyan waterworks and established an office at Huanglongxi for water management and local security.
