Recent-style verse is a verse form fixed in the Tang, comprising regulated verse and quatrains. Its tonal rules are strict, and within them poets lodged imagery and emotion.
In the Jinglong years of the early Tang (about 707), Shen Quanqi and Song Zhiwen completed the fixing of the rules of recent-style verse.
In the High Tang, Li Bai, Du Fu and others brought regulated verse and quatrains to maturity (about 755). Their works became the model for later poetry.
Tang Poetry Meter is the class in the chapter on Letters on the rules of Tang recent-style verse, which covers regulated verse and quatrains. The rules of tone and metre are strict, and within them poets described scenes and expressed feeling, lodging imagery and emotion in the verse.
